AOC Listrac-Médoc
The vines from « Chênes Besson » are spreading out on the Puy de Menjon’s slopes. These twins oaks, also called « Chênes Besson », are these wild trees underwhich the vine grower likes to rest at the end of a nice day.
This wine used to be part of the « Grand Vin » du Château Lestage, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. We have decided to keep it apart in order to better preserve its own specificities.
Terroir and vine-growing
Gravely Pyrenean soil on a limestone subsoil.
The principals of integrated agriculture are respected; great care is taken in cultivating the vines, grass is maintained between the rows and the grapes are handpicked.
Vinification and ageing
The “Chênes Besson” is vinified with equal care :
- Picking the Merlots at perfect maturity to preserve the aromas and “fresh fruit” flavours, and the Cabernets “over-ripe”, complementing them to perfection.
- Fermentation in small vats at moderate temperature, and early transfer to barrels (40% new) for an ageing of 14 months.
- Bottled just before the summer, after a light filtration, it will conserve the virtues of its youth for some time to come.
